Abstract

Afzal Khan belongs to the family that has contributed to Pashto literature in multifaceted ways. He belongs to the lineage of Khushal Khan Khattak, widely regarded as the father of Pashto literature. Afzal Khan was tutored by his grandfather, Khushal Khan Khattak in the art and aesthetic of literature. Afzal Khan has also composed and written books that has become an essential part of the Pashto literary tradition. In addition, a lot of literary books have been translated to Pashto from other languages upon his decree. Since Arabic was our language of religion, and Persian was the official language, therefore, a number of Arabic and Persian manuscripts were translated into Pashto for the understanding of the common people by the academicians and learned of the time. One of his book is a historical survey by the name of "Tareekhe Murasa". Here, the author has con
sulted renowned Persian poets and writers, including Abu Saeed Abul Khair, Hakeem Nizami Ganjavi, Sheikh Saadi Shirazi, Hafiz Sherazi, Amir Khusro, Abdur Rahman Jami, Helali Chughtai, Saib Tabrezi, amongst others. This paper critically analyzes their poetry.
