Pivotal Role of Languages in Human Life
Abstract
Life is full of hazards, commotions, frustrations, despair, futility and lawlessness. the world at large is at war. Man was sent to the world equipped with the requisite physical and mental capabilities to benefit the ailing people and in doing so language has been the most effective vehicle to impart knowledge and awareness and feed effective information to the people to settle both the internal and external disputes among the people amicably, fight against poverty ,diseases and social evils and bring peace and tranquility to the people at large.
History is replete with instances that impressive language has been better and more productive deterrent than brute force against social and economic evils. Language has always prevailed to teach sanity to the people where force has failed.
The Americans fought for eight years from 1965 to 1973 in Vietnam wreaking havoc by using deadly weapon of devastation but failed to make the Vietnamese surrender. At the end the Americans fought not to win the war but avoid its loosing. At last sanity prevailed on the American and agreed to meaningful dialogue through the use of effective language and made exit ignominiously amidst world-wide censure after the Paris agreement in 1973.
The Afghan war illustrates the point too. Something that was not achieved by the use of brute force incendiary bombs, chemical and nuclear weapons, devastation of properties and annihilation of humanity is reaching its logical conclusion with phenomenal success and bringing the discordant sides together only through dialogue by the effective use of language.
In blatant betrayal, brutus associated Julius Caesar, the great Roman general, because he thought he was ambitions and might grow tyrannical. Mark Antonyis, another,Roman general, rhetorical and oratorical but soft-spoken funeral speech convincingly belied the assassin allegation exposing his villainy and the motive behind the move and proved him guilty and put him to shame before the people.
People sunk into lowest level of wickedness and depravity engaged in reprisal attacks against those who had harmed them and other abuses like usury and burying their daughters alive which were rampant were brought to light and abolished by the teachings of saints and the messengers of God from time to time by persuasive arguments through effective and impressive language rather than force and coercion.
Static knowledge without explicit expression is ineffective to express eloquently what one feels its true scholaship. Khushhal Kattack was a renown Pashto poet with great scholastic aptitude having both the ability and experience. Having wandering through the labyrinths of social life he had first hand knowledge and wide experience of every walk of life taking from the huts of beggars to the royal palaces he imparted the knowledge and experience hereditary and so acquired through his polite language specially through his famous quatrains to enlighten the people at large.
