Abstract

Literary genre of sketch writings has been derived from painting in fine arts identifying as pen portrait or literary sketch.  In fact this genre is known as personal and informal expression depicting the basic signs of a particular person in a peculiar diction. Pashtun writers have expressed their observation based reviews in this peculiar prose genre in the early decades of 20th century which were followed later by a number of prose writers. Even a few collections have been published by some prose writers in recent days. This is certain the literary sketch writing is very attractive in the sense of light diction and individual style of a prose writing, but an effort of a comprehensive account and analytical study of sketch writing has not been made in out literati. This article actually deals with research and analytical survey of literary sketch writing in Pashto prose with the help of relevant data. It has been elaborated that literary sketch writing in Pashto prose is need of some more attention of our intellectual circle.
