Abstract

Existentialism, a globally acknowledged philosophical and literary movement, has its origin in the 19th century Europe. This movement assisted individual towards self discovery and perception. Who am I? Who created me? What was the purpose behind my creation? If I were to be born, why was I not consulted before my coming into being? This philosophy raises such and other questions. This research has shed ample light on the beginning, evolutionary phases, background and causes of the ground breaking philosophical and literary movement.
