Artistic Beauty in the Poetry of Dard
Keywords:
Rehmatullah DardAbstract
This research paper aims at exploring the artistic and rhetorical beauty in the poetry of "Rahmatullah Dard", fo’using on the Interplay of eloquence (fasahat) and rhetoric (balaghat) as es’ential elements of literary expression. Drawing on classical theories of Shibli Naumani, Altaf Hussain Hali, and others, the study highlights how Dard employs devices from ilm-ul-bayan (such as simile, metaphor, metonymy, and kinaya) and Ilm-ul-badi’ (such as antithesis, repetition, allusion, and parallelism) to enrich meaning while maintaining simplicity and naturalness. While some critics note his limited reliance on stylistic embellishments, the paper argues that this very quality underscores his mastery of “sahl-e- mumtaniʿ”—an effortless style that appears simple but is artistically profound. Through textual examples, It demonstrates that Dard balances clarity with depth, using accessible diction, subtle imagination, and regional flavor to convey themes of love, emotion, morality, and socio- cultural realities. Ultimately, the paper positions Dard’s poetry as a unique blend of tradition and innovation, where beauty lies not in artificial ornamentation but in sincerity, freshness of Ideas, and the harmonious fusion of thought and art
