Jirga System in Orakzai

Abstract

The Jirga is the one of most important cultural institution of the Pashtuns. It has served as traditional mechanism for resolving both internal and external issues among Pashtun communities for centuries. Across various Pashtun regions, the significance and value of the Jirga are widely acknowledged; through there are minor difference in its structure and functioning from area to area. This article aims to highlight and explore the unique features of the Jirga system as practiced in Orakzai region. A detailed discussion has been presented to showcase the distinct characteristics and operational dynamics of the Jirga in Orakzai, offering insights into how it different from other regional systems while maintaining the cross Pashtun cultural essence.
