This research article critically and analytically examines the use of allusion (talmīḥ) in the poetry of the eminent Pashto poet Dr. Ali Khail Daryab . Allusion, as a rhetorical device within the science of badiʿ (poetic embellishment), represents both an artistic and intellectual aspect of literary expression. The study explores how Daryab employs historical, religious, romantic, and national allusions to enhance both the aesthetic and thematic dimensions of his poetry. The findings reveal that Daryab’s allusions not only contribute to the artistic beauty of his poetic language but also reflect his deep intellectual insight and creative power. His use of allusion—often in metaphorical, symbolic, and comparative forms-expands the expressive range of Pashto poetry and enriches its artistic charm while revealing profound layers of meaning and emotion.
